Marine Technology

Diving as a profession is a thrilling job that utilizes elements of health, construction and materials science in the ever-changing marine environment.

By obtaining a Commercial Diving degree or certificate, you can be one of the elite few in this thrilling field who make an excellent living.

We offer three different programs within this division, including:

  • Certificate in Marine Technology
  • Associate of Science Degree in Marine Technology

Several concentrations are available within each area, so you can choose the one that best suits your interests. Operate under the seas and supervise either the health of fellow surface-supplied-air divers (MedTech), the soundness of aircraft and underwater structures (SpecTech) or the wet welding of fillet joints (WeldTech).

With as few as half a dozen intriguing classes, you'll get your career diving accreditation to perform jobs in any setting where you'll find water. Because of enhanced national security concerns and the growth in the search for underwater resources to sustain life on the planet, career prospects are ever-increasing.

Associate of Science in Marine Technology (Commercial Diving)

92 quarter credits are needed to complete the Associate of Science degree in Marine Technology and diving commercially.

Students must earn credits in the following areas:

  • Completion of Marine Technology I (38 quarter credits)
  • Completion of Marine Technology II (Concentration) (24 quarter credits).
  • Choice of concentration includes: MedTech (Advanced diving medicine); SpecTech (Underwater inspection technology); WeldTech (Underwater welding technology).
  • Completion of General Education Coursework (30 quarter credits).

Goal

To provide students with basic skills in surface supplied air diving which is a prerequisite for each concentration.

Students will receive both classroom and hands-on training and education to develop the skills necessary for commercial diving. As a student here, you will learn safe diving procedures, good work habits, and technical diving skills.

Required Prerequisites: College Admission Requirements

Equipment:

Beginning with course DV128, students will be required to have the following equipment: wetsuit, fins, weight belt and weights, booties, gloves, knife, and crescent wrench. In addition, certain classes have a prerequisite of a certified diving medical release.

Certificate in Marine Technology (Commercial Diving)

Objective: To ready pupils with the fundamental proficiencies for surface-supplied air dives to satisfy the requirement for every specialty. The curriculum has both lectures and hands-on courses that will help you learn the skills and gain the experience you need for commercial diving. Students are taught how to dive safely, technical diving skills, and professional work habits.

Prerequisites: College Admission Requirements

Equipment:

Beginning with course DV128 a student has to be equipped with wetsuit, fins, weight belt and weights, booties, gloves, knife, and crescent wrench before the starting with course DV128. There are some courses that do require the student to have an approved dive physical clearance.
