Iowa Lakes Community College

The state of Iowa only has this one motorcycle program. The course of study in Motorcycles and Small Motors was created to ready students for jobs working with motorcycles and personal recreational vehicles. Laboratory work on the newest equipment and theory are the emphasis of our instruction. Instruction is offered for domestic as well as foreign motorcycles, along with ATVs, snowmobiles, jet skis, and small motors.

A dealership technician, service manager, parts, sales, business owner, and performance shop technician are examples of job opportunities that exist after graduation. You can expect beginning wages to range from 15 thousand to 30 thousand dollars.

Technicians of today are expected to have increasingly good mechanical aptitude followed by the capacity to read and comprehend service literature, the ability to understand and execute various increasingly technical diagnostic procedures, and the capacity to work with fellow employees and customers.

Today a Joint Industrial Technical Business specialty is provided, highlighting managerial and entrepreneurial skills. After finishing the second year of general studies and business programs, an Associate in Applied Science in Technology degree is presented.

Situated in the scenic Great Lakes area of the state, Iowa Lakes Community College provides a number of physical sites across the five-county region it serves, in Algona, Emmetsburg, Estherville, Spencer and Spirit Lake. You can take classes on either a full or part time basis, during the daytime, in the evenings or on weekends, by television, through fiber optics, or in class with a professor, as well as online courses taken over the Internet. You can choose from college transfer, career option, technical or vocational course, even 1 class at a time, or just take continuing education classes. The decision is all up to you.

Employment option courses are created to make you ready for work, or relocate to another four year college, after finishing your Associate in Science degree.

Iowa Lakes' technical courses of study make you eligible for an AAS degree following 2 years of instruction and firsthand experience engineered to get you ready for entry into your field.

Vocational courses of study provide diplomas upon completion of at least two semesters and under two academic years of instruction.

Overall Graduation Rate and Transfer-Out Rate

The overall graduation rate is also known as the "Student Right to Know" or IPEDS graduation rate. It tracks the progress of students who began their studies as full-time, first-time degree- or certificate-seeking students to see if they complete a degree or other award such as a certificate within 150% of "normal time" for completing the program in which they are enrolled.

Some institutions also report a transfer-out rate, which is the percentage of the full-time, first-time students who transferred to another institution.

Note that not all students at the institution are tracked for these rates. Students who have already attended another postsecondary institution, or who began their studies on a part-time basis, are not tracked for this rate.
