Austin Community College District

All across the United States there are not nearly enough professional auto technicians to meet the demand. There is always a need for automotive service, as opposed to a lot of other sectors that are not as recession proof. Car dealers and manufacturers are constantly asking for trained technicians, and will continue to do so.

The automotive technology program at ACC give students a real world approach to learning through understanding of the system theory and operations with hands-on training in classrooms and labs. This is achieved using computer software, AV presentations, and first-hand instruction using simulations and contemporary vehicles. A generalist approach focusing on independent, self-directed learning is how the automotive fundamentals are developed. Professionalism, work skills, and responsibilities are emphasized together with safety and an understanding of hazardous material handling. Women and men alike are encouraged to participate in the Automotive Department.

The tech instruction courses at ACC are engineered to satisfy the demands of contemporary automotive shops. The graduates of the program are expected to earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree or Program Certifications that enables them to diagnose and repair complex vehicle problems of engines including ignition, fuel and emission control systems. Successful graduates from the institute are capable of performing diagnosis and repair of complex general and electronic systems; this includes charging and starting of systems, electrical wiring, accessories, and diagnosis and repairing of heating and air conditioning systems. The comprehensive technical training program covers these and other advanced systems.

MOTORCYCLE REPAIR: Certificate

Obtaining a certificate in motorcycle repair gives power mechanics technology training in the principles and performance of two- and four-cycle motorcycle engines, electrical systems, engine failure diagnosis, tune-up, hydraulic principles, and complex laboratory practice. This includes motorcycle chassis mounted technology. Brakes, wheels and tires, clutches, drive chains, and transmissions are included.

Courses included are:

  • Motorcycle Tune Up
  • Motorcycle Service Principles
  • Motorcycle Electrical Systems
  • Motorcycle Four Stroke Engine/Transmission

Overall Graduation Rate and Transfer-Out Rate

The overall graduation rate is also known as the "Student Right to Know" or IPEDS graduation rate. It tracks the progress of students who began their studies as full-time, first-time degree- or certificate-seeking students to see if they complete a degree or other award such as a certificate within 150% of "normal time" for completing the program in which they are enrolled.

Some institutions also report a transfer-out rate, which is the percentage of the full-time, first-time students who transferred to another institution.

Note that not all students at the institution are tracked for these rates. Students who have already attended another postsecondary institution, or who began their studies on a part-time basis, are not tracked for this rate.

Bachelor s Degree Graduation Rates

Bachelor s degree graduation rates measure the percentage of entering students beginning their studies full-time and are planning to get a bachelor s degree and who complete their degree program within a specified amount of time.
