Professional Pilot/Aviation Technology
This program is most appropriate for students who wish to pursue entry level employment, or receive a promotion, in the field of aviation. Students pursuing this degree will be expected to fulfill all commercial pilot training requirements as well as sufficient specialized aviation training. The employment forecast for aviation professionals is quite promising, as opportunities are constantly on the rise. After enrolling at the College, a student will not be allowed to submit flight instruction from an outside instructor to fulfill course requirements in the aviation program.
Aviation Program Admission Requirement
All students will be required to provide to the Department Chair of Aviation, a Class III medical exam with student pilot certificate. This is required to successfully complete the solo flight exercise that is a part of the first flight course, Private Pilot Flight. We recommend that all aviation majors wishing to pursue careers as commercial pilots consider completing a Class I medical rather than the less stringent Class III, due to the fact that the Class I is usually required for professional pilots. A certified FAA Airmen Medical Examiner must administer the examination to the student. Baker College Admissions personnel can provide you with a list of approved medical doctors. The United States Department of Homeland Security, Transport Security Administration has decreed that any student seeking to enroll in an aviation program must provide proof of U.S. citizenship -- this can be either a birth certificate or a valid, current U.S. Passport. The Department will retain copies of all documentation.
Aviation students at Baker College must be at least 17 years of age, which corresponds to FAA licensing requirements. Completion of a "Discovery Flight" is suggested for students who are interested in enrolling in flight course work at Baker College.
The Admissions Office can handle these arrangements. At his time, international students may not enroll in the Baker College Aviation Program.
Aviation Program Flight Instruction Fees
Baker College of Muskegon contracts the services of a licensed flight instruction provider who offers students their required flight instruction. Contact the Admissions Department to obtain detailed fee information for all classes incorporating flight instruction. New students take note: all flight instruction fees are charged over and above the regular Baker College tuition; flight instruction fees are not included in the estimated annual and quarterly expenses.
