Job Expectations and Salaries for Volvo Mechanics
Most Volvo mechanics are required to attend Automotive Service Technology training which is available through local trade and vocational schools. Some high schools even offer this training. The Automotive Service Technology program is nationally certified. Mechanics can receive a certificate of completion or associate degree.
Those with good diagnostic abilities, problem-solving skills, and basic electronics training will have the best opportunities. Good training on the technical basics gives Volvo mechanics the best opportunity for a well-paying, satisfying career. Salary depends on the location and experience of Volvo mechanics. On average Volvo mechanics can expect to earn between $20-$30 per hour or $71,000 a year. However, a mechanic's location, industry, and experience will dictate the salary.
The Volvo originated in Sweden and has long been considered by automotive researchers one of the safest vehicles. Volvo has excellent crash test scores as evidence. It's a car known for delivering both performance and style.
The job and salary expectations for Volvo mechanics that successfully complete automotive training programs in high school, tech, and vocational schools are excellent. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts job growth for these workers will increase 14 percent through 2006. The bureau expects a faster than average growth for all mechanics. This means more employment opportunities as a result of technological changes, the development of new hybrid engines and alternative fuels. Volvo mechanics will need to keep their skills sharp to stay on top of the trends and be more competitive.
Job opportunities for Volvo mechanics and other specialty car mechanics look bright as long as consumer incomes continue to rise. The number of consumers who buy these vehicles are the indicators of how well Volvo cars sell. When families with two incomes make more money they will usually look to buy quality cars like Volvo.
There are also likely to be more families searching for passenger cars as well. Volvo is a very popular vehicle for families. The more people purchase them, the more Volvo mechanics are needed for regular maintenance. Naturally many Volvo owners would prefer to have a certified Volvo mechanic to keep their prized vehicle in top condition.
The demand for Volvo mechanics is expected to continue growing through 2016 and beyond. Volvo automobiles are known to be a high-quality, reliable automobile. This reduces the need for constant maintenance and repairs in some cases which could potentially offset any increased demand for these cars. On the other hand, you need a qualified Volvo specialty mechanic to keep your Volvo running smoothly.
The need for regularly scheduled maintenance, including oil changes, brake repair, air-conditioning service, and other small repairs are services most Volvo mechanics will perform. Jobs for mechanics will mostly be available in small retail shops that service foreign cars and Volvo dealerships. Volvo mechanics can expect relative stability and longevity in this field. Changes in the economy and other industries are expected to have little effect on Volvo mechanics in the automotive industry.
